Jesus said:
John 10:27-30
“My sheep hear my voice;
I know them, and they follow me.
I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish.
No one can take them out of my hand.
My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all,
and no one can take them out of the Father’s hand.
The Father and I are one.”
It’s been a liturgical year since I started writing; so grateful for the Good Shepherd and the joy of knowing I’m His sheep.
This year Good Shepherd Sunday is also Mother’s Day, and today’s Gospel was the best mother’s day gift ever – a reminder that my little sheep are in the Father’s hand and no one can take them out!
Also, something neat about sheep we learned recently in our Hallow Daily Miracles reflection (Hallow is an awesome Catholic App and Daily Miracles is a series of real miracles to reflect on). Apparently lambs were an Egyptian god so when the Hebrews killed a lamb and put its blood on the lamppost, they either believed God would save them or else the Egyptians would probably kill them. It seems like showing our true colors these days can also lead to exile or joy and so I pray:
Lord, let us walk in your path,
Let the evidence of our journey be love, forgiveness, trials overcome, tears of sadness that lead to tears of joy.
Take our hearts and rid them of selfishness, pettiness, smallness, exclusion. Great Shepherd, give us a heart of your sheep, to know your voice and follow you!
At a small group discussion at RCIA, came up with this – the more closer one is to Jesus, the more clearly can hear His voice (resonated with me as I get older and hearing gets worse) When sheep gets further away from the shepherd, more likely the wolf can get to it. Summary – stick close to the Shepherd!
Great feedback! It’s worth meditating on what voices we do hear and how/do we discern Jesus’! Thanks for sharing!
