When we moved into our home, I already knew from our previous home that I didn’t have a green thumb. But I really wanted to make a blackberry patch work since we had a creek and I wanted to offer some shade and get a little privacy from the street with a huge blackberry bush. I also hoped that the family we would have here would be able to benefit from fresh blackberries when they were in season. When we were dating, Michael and I used to often visit a wild blackberry patch by my high school and enjoy the fresh berries together.
We tried various plants in our garden and we’d get a couple berries here and there, but usually the birds picked him off and I just figured hey, this is about right for our experience with gardening.
And then today when we went down to the bridge to help get a piece of wood off that had floated onto it during some flooding, and we noticed that the whole side yard down by the creek is starting to get populated with blackberry bushes. I can’t say for sure that these are from the seeds of the blackberries we planted in the garden maybe 100 yards away but maybe they are. And it just makes me smile to think that maybe God heard my desire to have a beautiful set of blackberry bushes down here by the creek, He laughed knowing that my green thumb was not going to accomplish it, and allowed His green thumb, through the creation of His creatures to make it happen.
